In the competitive beauty industry, companies like Lancôme face the challenge of connecting with their target audience in a way that feels fresh and engaging. For their 2023 product sampling roadshow in Kuala Lumpur, Lancôme wanted to stand out from traditional product launches. At UM Digital, we helped bring that vision to life with a motion-sensor interactive vending kiosk. Female beauty consumers aged 20-35 were invited to play a fun, interactive game, with results instantly tied to product samples. This seamless, contactless experience brought the Lancôme brand to life in a new and exciting way, offering a perfect example of Retailtainment that merged entertainment with shopping.
Our Work
The beauty industry is constantly evolving, and companies need innovative ways to engage consumers while simplifying the process. Lancôme wanted to create an interactive, memorable experience that went beyond handing out free samples. To achieve this, we designed a custom motion-sensor kiosk that gamified the product sampling experience. Players engaged with the booth, and their game performance determined their product reward. We also integrated OTP verification, real-time stock tracking, and lead generation features to ensure the process was efficient and streamlined. The result was an experience that was not only fun but also data-driven and seamless.
Results
The activation attracted a steady stream of participants, with more than 700 samples redeemed daily throughout the event. The seamless combination of interactivity and contactless sample redemption kept engagement high, achieving a 100% engagement-to-redemption rate. Social media buzz was strong, with participants excitedly sharing their experiences online. According to Lancôme’s regional lead, the event had “the best crowd we’ve had.” The activation not only enhanced the customer experience but also captured verified leads, providing Lancôme with actionable insights for future campaigns.
